Syringe PLUNGER Force Measurement

Accurately measure actuation force and plunger resistance with our complete, ready-to-use solution digital force measurement solution.

This syringe force measurement kit is ideal for:

  • Pharmaceutical R&D to study injection forces for new drug delivery system
  • Medical Device Testing to validate compliance of syringe-based products
  • Biomechanics Research to analyze human factors and ergonomic force application

The Challenge

In pharmaceutical R&D, medical device testing, and drug delivery system design, it’s critical to understand the exact force required to inject fluids using a syringe. Excessive force can:

  • Damage delicate tissues or veins
  • Cause discomfort or injury to patients and to the administrator
  • Lead to device failure or inconsistent dosing

Conversely, too little force may result in incomplete drug delivery or incorrect dosing. Traditional testing methods often rely on manual force estimation or basic mechanical setups, which lack accuracy and repeatability — making it hard to meet regulatory compliance and ensure product safety.

Syringe Force Measurement Solution

Our Syringe Force Measurement solution empowers you to accurately measure the force applied to the plunger of a syringe. The sensor is designed such that a human user can simply hold it in his hands and administer the injection just as he/she normally would. Alternatively it can be put into a jig and injected using a screw driven press apparatus. The sensors kit is fully calibrated, ready-to-use, and includes the sensor, digital interface, calibration service, and software to capture the sensor data.

Syringe Force Measurement

By capturing real-time force vs. time data, researchers and manufacturers can:

  • Validate syringe designs and drug delivery systems

  • Ensure consistent injection performance across batches

  • Improve patient safety and user comfort

Digital Load Cell Solution for Syringe Force Measurement

Our solution, offers a syringe force sensor that can be used with standard syringes.

◦ 1 mL Syringe with a plunger diameter: 3.58 mm

◦ 2.25 mL Syringe with a plunger diameter: 6.17 mm

◦ 3 mL Syringe with a plunger diameter: 6.77 mm

The syringe force sensor consists of a syringe adapter plus a miniature force sensor (REB5)  with 2 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg or 100 kg capacities. It can be connected with our DI-100U USB sensor with a 40 Hz data rate or DI-1000U USB sensor interface with a 80 Hz data output rate. The interface can be connected to a PC or Tablet running Win 8/10 and is powered by the USB port of the PC. Run our LoadVUE Pro (LV-1000) software to capture and display data. The optional DI-1000UHS interface can offers 500 Hz max data output rate or the DI-1000UHS-1K offers 1 Khz max data rate for very fast force measurements. LoadVUE Pro supports data rates up to 1 Khz (limited only by the electronics).

How Does Syringe Force Solution Work?

The REB5 miniature load cell at the base of the plunger, measures the force being applied. This data is transmitted via the DI-1000U to a PC using USB output. The USB connection comes in handy during characterization at the R&D stage.
