Digital Load Cells

Older analog load cells require a conversion in order to be read by a digital device, like a computer. Manufacturers have introduced digital designs to increase the uses and accuracy of load cells.

Digital load cells can handle a variety of weights, just like analog designs. Sensors can be built to handle weight loads of up to 10,000 pounds. These designs can also be fitted with tension-measuring kits to read the force of an apparatus that compresses and decompresses.

Digital Load Cells Bring Many Benefits

In addition to handling different weight loads, digital load cells have other advantages, including:

  • Lower cost compared to other designs
  • Smaller profiles for installation and measurements in tight spaces
  • Limited power use for unattended digital load cell readings
  • Increased accuracy

Some manufacturers offer digital USB designs to increase flexibility. Getting a force reading simply requires connecting the device to a computer. Optional software gives engineers more choices for interfacing with the digital load cells.

Wireless networks can further increase the applications of digital cells. Readings can be taken in a remote location and read by a computer located away from the test site. With a wireless hub, measurements can be taken from several locations and controlled at the same time from one location.

Loadstar Sensors, Inc. manufactures many different digital load cells. Our company can also provide software and wireless equipment to help engineers get the readings they require.
