Miniature Load Cells
Miniature load cells can be applied in a final product design or used in traditional applications for taking force readings. Despite their small size, they still offer the options of their larger cousins.
Engineering applications often call for miniature or specially designed load cells. For instance, a normal disc-shaped cell may be the right height, but only a rectangular design fits in the required area. Due to digital designs, the applications of miniature load cells have increased.
Miniature Load Cells Take Digital Readings
Thanks to their digital design, miniature load cells can be produced in forms as thin as 0.1 inches. Since the force reading is converted directly to a digital signal, there is no need to attach strain gauges and increase the unit's size.
Miniature load cells offer additional operational benefits due to their digital design. They interface directly with software or a computer, which means there is no need to convert the unit's signal to a digital form. Since miniature load cells are now made with USB connections, there are possibilities for wireless interfaces.
An engineer can set up several on one wireless network. During operation, the signal from each unit is sent to a wireless hub, which then interfaces with the computer. From here, the engineers can control each unit and take the required readings.
Loadstar Sensors, Inc. makes miniature load cells in a variety of custom sizes and shapes, which can be designed for different weight loads. Our company also makes load cell interface software and sells wireless products.
