DI-1000WiFi Setup Guide

The DI-1000WiFi unit can communicate with your SmartPhone, Tablet or PC via WiFi. Before it can do so, you need to configure it to work with your WiFi router or access point. Your router's SSID and password need to be programmed into the DI-1000WiFi first.

Connect to the DI-1000WiFi directly in adhoc mode

  • In this mode you will use the DI-1000WiFi itself as an access point.
  • Turn on the DI-1000WiFi. (If the battery is not charged fully, you may have to connect the AC adapter provided.)
  • Go to your desktop/laptop/iPhone/iPad settings screen and view the available WiFi networks. The WiFi module will show up as xbee-******** as shown below (on an iPhone)
  • Select it and connect to it.

  • Once connected, launch your browser and enter 192.168.1.10 in the address bar. You will see the page shown below:

  • Change the following settings.
  • Network, Protocol: TCP/IP
  • Network Mode: Soft-AP mode
  • Do not change anything else. Then save or apply the settings. (You will not be able to access this web page again, unless you restore to factory settings

  • Download and launch LoadVUE iOS/LoadVUE Pro iOS on an iPhone/iPad or LoadVUE/SensorVUE on a Windows PC or tablet.

  • Click on Settings in the iOS app and enter the IP address 192.168.10 (This will always be the IP address of the DI-1000WiFi in adhoc mode). Also enter 9750 as the port number.

  • Make appropriate selections for units and other parameters and select Save. This will take you back to the main screen.
  • If you are using a Windows tablet or PC, select 'WiFi' as the connected option and enter the same information.

  • Select Connect and then Read to read the data from the sensors. Click Tare to zero the sensor at any time.

Connect to the DI-1000WiFi using your wireless router or access point

  • In this mode, you will use the adhoc mode mentioned above to setup the DI-1000WiFi to connect to your router. After you set it up, you won't be able to connect to it in adhoc mode.
  • Obtain your WiFi router's SSID and password. (You may have to contact your network administrator to obtain this. This is the same SSID and password your iPhone and/or work PC uses to connect to the router)
  • Also find out what kind of security your router uses (WPA, WPA2 or WEP).
  • Turn on the DI-1000WiFi. (If the battery is not charged fully, you may have to connect the AC adapter provided.)
  • Go to your desktop/laptop/iPhone/iPad settings screen and view the available WiFi networks. The WiFi module will show up as xbee-******** as shown below (on an iPhone)
  • Select it and connect to it.

  • Once connected, launch your browser and enter 192.168.1.10 in the address bar. You will see the page shown below:

    Enter/modify the following fields. Leave everything else as it is.

    • SSID
    • Passphrase (Router password)
    • Encryption (None, WPA, WPA2 or WEP)
    • Protocol: TCP/IP
    • IP Addressing Mode: DHCP
    • Device Options: 0x2

Note: SSID and password are case sensitive. If you enter incorrect information, you may have to configure it using the wired option discussed below.

Download a network IP discovery tool like Fing. It will show you the IP addresses of all devices connected to your router. The WiFi module will appear as DIGIBOARD.

Note down the IP address for the DIGIBOARD for use in the next step.

Download and launch LoadVUE iOS/LoadVUE Pro iOS on an iPhone/iPad or LoadVUE/SensorVUE on a Windows PC or tablet.

Click on Settings in the iOS app and enter the IP address from step 4. Also enter 9750 as the port number.

Configure the WiFi settings using a wired USB cable/connection

If you have trouble connecting wirelessly or you need to reset the DI-1000WiFi parameters (for example, you are moving the unit from one router to another), you can do so by connecting the DI-1000WiFi directly to a Windows PC or Mac or Linux computer using the USB cable included with your DI-1000WiFi.

  • On Windows PC or MAC, Download and install the appropriate USB drivers for USB communication with the DI-1000WiFi using the link below:
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm (Scroll down to locate the appropriate drivers for Windows, Mac or Linux)

  • Connect the DI-1000WiFi to the computer. Make sure the DI-1000WiFi powered using the external power supply.
  • Run the terminal program downloaded in step 3 and open the serial port that is assigned to the DI-1000WiFi. On a Windows PC you can do this by looking at the Device Manager and looking for a device that says USB Serial Port.
  • Set the communication parameters to 9600-N-8-1, No hardware flow control.
  • Hit the <Enter> key. You should see the letter 'A'. This confirms that you are able to communicate using the serial port.
  • Type the following commands, one at a time and press <Enter>. Note the commands are case-sensitive. The router ssid and router password are also case sensitive. (Note: What you type may or may not be echoed depending on your program settings)

    +++ (3 plus signs)
    ATIP 1 USE TCP/IP
    ATMA 0 USE DHCP
    ATID <router_ssid>
    ATPK <router_password>
    ATEE <0,1,2, or 3> 0-No Security, 1-WPA, 2-WPA2, 3-WEP

    ATWR 'burn' the settings
    ATCN exit command mode
    --- (3 minus signs)

  • Then close down the terminal emulation program, power-down the DI-1000WiFi, power it back up and wait for a minute or so for it to establish a link to the router.
  • Start the terminal emulation program again, and type the following commands:

    +++
    ATMY <will return the IP address, for example 192.168.1.101>
    ATCN
    ---

  • Note down the IP address above.
  • Then disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  • Make sure your SmartPhone, Tablet or PC is also connected to the same router as the DI-1000WiFi.
  • To reset to factory defaults, do the following. This will place the DI-1000WiFi in ad-hoc mode:
